Cock-a-doodle-do! 2nd Grade Artists Strut Their Stuff

2nd Grade Artists were inspired by the artwork of Eric Carle for thier Houston Rodeo Art! All of his illustrations are created with painted tissue paper collage, and 2nd Grade Artists tried this technique out for themselves. First, we looked at works by Eric Carle and discussed patterns and color choices that we noticed in his work. Then 2nd graders went wild and crazy painting paper with patterns and interesting colors. After all of the paper dried, they used the painted paper to create paper collage roosters. Each piece of the rooster is individually cut and glued onto the background paper and then a simple background is added. These look great!

One group of 2nd Grade Artists created rodeo inspired wax resist paintings. They created boots or hats and wrote their name inside...then they wrote the mirror image to look like stitching on the hat or boot. They then drew lines and shape to fill in the hat/boot with crayon. Finally, they painted the whole picture with watercolor.

The following 5 artworks have been selected to represent Mossman at the District Rodeo Art Show.
