Leaves of Color by 4th Grade
4th Grade Artists created these leaves of color during a color theory unit. They first studied the color wheel and relationships between colors. They practiced mixing colors by creating their own color wheel, including primary, secondary, and intermediate colors. They then began working on their leaves. 4th Graders drew 4-6 leaves that were coming in from the edges of their paper, and overlapping some to create visual interest. Then the color fun began! They experimented mixing tints (mixing white with a color to make it lighter) and shades (mixing black with a color to make it darker). Each leaf represents one color from the color wheel. Each section of that leaf is a different tint or shade of that color. They then painted the background black with a watercolor wash to create contrast with the colored leaves. Enjoy!
