AHHHHHHH! 2nd Grade Scream Self-Portraits
2nd Grade Artists used Edvard Munch and his self-portrait, The Scream, as inspiration for their own emotional self-portraits. They started out learning a bit about Munch and the history behind The Scream. They then thought of a time that they were frightened or surprised and started a self-portrait portraying that emotion. 2nd Grade Artists focused on facial feature placement and proportion while drawing. They used a mirror to make thier self-portrait look like they do, dimples, glasses, crazy hair, and all. They then drew their hands framing their faces...talk about difficult...hands are hard to draw! After the drawing was complete, they used watercolors to add color to their pieces. They mixed colors to make skin-toned paint as well as any hair and eye colors that they needed. To finish it all off, brightly colored swirls fill the background. These 2nd grade artists also wrote a short story about a time when they were frightened. These emotional self-portraits turned out looking alot like their creators!
