5th Grade Transformations

5th Grade Artists learned about transformations...transitions or slides, rotations or turns, and reflections or flips. They started this project by creating an abstract design on a 6" square. They used a view finder to isolate thir most interesting view of their design. They were encouraged to look for a view that had various types of lines and showed balance. They then cut out that view. Ok...here we go...they traced 8 copies of that very interesting view and then traced 8 reflections of that view. So, total, 16 pieces on 2" squares. Now that's alot of work and we are just getting started. After they created their 16 pieces, they spent some time arranging them to create a pattern/design. The used transitions, rotations, and reflections to create this design. They glued them down on a separate piece of paper.

Now for the color. 5th grade artists studied the color wheel and learned about color schemes. They chose a color scheme and then mixed the colors that they needed using just the primary colors, black and white. The color schemes that they could choose from are monochromatic, analogous, warm or cool, complimentary, and triadic. They then painted their design, painting each piece the same, to create a unified artwork. Here are some works in progress!
Here are some finished products! These are amazing!
